2008 Message from Linda & Henning Continued

You made this first season very easy and enjoyable. Our first season opened on May 17, 2008. The cottages were spotless (thank you Corinne and Margaret), the boats were pristine (thank you Henning and Jonathan) and the fish were plentiful (thank you mother nature). Our clients arrived by the car load and filled every cottage ... and so the season began. Club Kalli regaled us with many stories from years gone by. This group has been coming to PLC for 63 years and so had lots to share. Peter Samarco caught the first big fish of the season ... A BIG 17.5 LB PIKE.

Summer Recap

This season has proved to be one of the wettest in a long time and instead of the intense heat that was predicted; we experienced moderate temperatures with lots of cloudy days. This of course helped increase the black fly population to a near unbearable rate. The locales said that they had never experienced anything close to the black fly season in generations. We all looked fashionable in our rain gear and bug nets. Congratulations to all of us who survived it! In July the fishermen transformed into family vacationers and the camp came alive with children of all ages. We started up the craft day on Monday’s (frog cup game), canoe trip on Wednesday and the camp fire with bannock and marshmallows on Thursdays. Becker’s Berry Patch opened for berry picking in early July and so many of us went strawberry picking (thanks to those who picked for Linda when her back went out). We served the fresh strawberry jam with the bannock and started a new tradition here at PLC. The blueberry jam was also a success (thank you Michele). Everyone was sad to see the end of the water slide. The safety of our clients is of utmost importance to Henning and I, so we decided to remove the slide as the platform was no longer safe. On July 6th, 2008 the Ray family was enjoying their family vacation. Everyone was excited when David proposed to Pam and she said “YES”. We wish you both a life time of happiness which will hopefully include more trips to Promised Land Camp.

Fishing Stories

Early in the season Henning had seen two bears near the driveway of the property. On July 16, 2008 Mike Santarelli saw a bear again and he was able to get a picture too. This one was close to the camp, but not actually on the camp. Linda was not too excited that our enthusiastic client went searching for the bear, but everyone else got caught up in the excitement. Hopefully, next year the weather will be warmer and drier, there will be more great fishing and we will continue to make more wonderful memories together. Next years pricing will be sent with your request for deposit if you have re-booked for next year and of course you can always check the web site in January. Well we have all heard the one about the big one that got away ... but what about the one that bit back!! Cindy and her husband are PLC first timers and they are avid fishers. They went out often and regularly, which explains why they caught many impressive fish. The have been coming to Lake Nipissing for many years, but this was their first time staying at PLC. On this particular day, Cindy was catching lots of fish and some nice ones too. She landed the one in the picture and just as she was posing for the picture (before releasing) the pike flipped and caught her on the lip causing a nasty cut Cindy ended up getting a stitch, but she was not deterred. She joined the camp at the Thursday night camp fire the same night and went out fishing the next day. Bravo!

Upgrades and Renovations

Now that all of the clients have gone we can start to look at the renovation projects for this year. We asked several clients what was important for you and mostly people said just to keep it clean, well managed and to make sure the boats are maintained. Of course, we plan to do all of that, but in an effort to continually improve, some of you felt that we could do better in the kitchens, bathrooms, floors, dishes and that some of the cottages could use some paint and minor repairs. We will price these projects and you will have to wait to see what we were able to accomplish. With the changing of the guard at Promised Land Camp, we have also changed the web site slightly. In January, you will see a complete revamp of the web site. We will update the pictures and add new photos of the renovations as they are occurring. Please visit our web site and check it out. You may find your picture in one of the sections!!!

Ending Thoughts

Again, Henning and I would like to thank you all for making our first season successful and a lot of fun. Hopefully, next year the weather will be warmer and drier, there will be more great fishing and we will continue to make more wonderful memories together. Next years pricing will be sent with your request for deposit if you have re-booked for next year and of course you can always check the web site in January.

Henning and I wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
